Curriculum Supplier Visit

Christina Green from Christian Education services is coming back to Dunedin to give us a chance to look at and buy the curriculums she has available. She has a huge range of items, including new ones, unavailable at her last visit. Christina is now the only national distributor in NZ, after Erina at Learnex has moved on to focus on other things.

It has been 2 years since Christina was here, and due to poor numbers coming along and looking at that time, it is likely to be another 2-3 years before she is here again. So, if you are at all interested, it would be great if you could make an effort to go along and see her stuff.

Note that although CES does specialise in resources for christian home educators, they also carry resources suitable for secular home educators.

One of our ex-homeshooling families has dropped off some materials from The Correspondence School, to be shared among our members. There are supplies, workbooks and cassettes for all subjects, including craft supplies and rolls of paper, science, maths etc, and they mostly seem to aimed at lower-primary age children. Dunedin Kids Market

The first Dunedin Kids Market will be held next Sunday (19 September) from 10am - 2pm, at the Bayfield High School Gym, on Shore Street. Pre-loved clothes and toys for 0 - 8 year olds will be sold, as well as new products for all. Here's their blurb:

Well the countdown is on! We have 56 stalls booked so far with something for everyone....clothing, gifts, toys, children's accessories, photography, décor, you name it we’ve got it. As you wander around the stalls treat yourself to a hot coffee and BBQ sausage sizzle or something sweet from the Elm Row bake stall. It is going to be a great day out!

Before I abuse the privileges of writing this newsletter too much, if anyone has anything that could fit into this category which they'd like to share through the newsletter, send a blurb to me. I'm thinking of resources people no longer need, as well as goods or services that relate to home education/family life, which could pretty much cover everything! No full blown ads on a regular basis, but a few sentences with any relevant links should be OK, as well as the usual 'for sale' stuff that we include whenever anyone has something to sell. I like the idea of helping people to recycle their second-hand stuff, and also of letting our group know about any of our members' family-run businesses. Any opinions either way from the group?

I am selling our (mostly) unused copy of Alpha Omega's Horizon's Pre-school set. It includes: Teachers Guides 1 & 2 , with some pencil markings in guide 1, up to lesson 21 (there are 180 lessons in all). Children's workbooks 1 & 2 with some of the lessons up to lesson 23 removed and used. Lesson Resource sheets (with adjustments made to the months of the year, so they reflect Kiwi seasons/events).

It does not include the multi-media resources listed on the website, as we are still enjoying them.

We would like $100.00.

I am looking at starting a fruit buying co-op, mostly buying Organic fruit, and thought you might be interested. I am happy to buy the fruit, let you know what is available, and weigh and bag it, ready for you to pick up. - "Journey to Tangiwai" by David Hill - about the Tangiwai disaster, 1953, through the eyes of Boy Scout Peter Cotterill. This book was a finalist in the 2004 NZ Post book awards. Insights into Post-war NZ, the baby-boom housing boom etc.
- "Below the Mountains" by Jean Bennett - Building the Milford Rd, 1935-36, The Diary of Amy McDonald. Depression-era NZ, Compulsory work camps, etc.
